A Customer Experience Site
(not an official Masonry Effects company site)
This is my experience with Steve Bohling, doing business as "Masonry Effects".
On or about May 07, 2007 Steve Bohling reviewed and bid a masonry/concrete repair job on my building in Sycamore, IL. Mr. Bohling verbally stated he would tuck point and skim coat (or “parge”) the entire brick basement and several denoted exterior concrete areas in need of repairs for a total cost of $1,000.00. Mr. Bohling also stated he would “glass block” all 3 basement windows for an additional $200.00.
Total Masonry Bid; $1,200.00
During this same discussion Mr. Bohling offered the painting services of his brother for the rear of the building. According to Mr. Bohling, he had scaffolding he would erect to reach the peak of the building and his brother “is a good painter".
Steve said while he did the cement work his brother would paint the back of the building. Mr. Bohling offered; "I will grind-out and fill the cracks before he paints ... give my brother $300.00 and you supply the paint and rollers”.
Masonry + Paint Bid; $1,500.00
This building owner agreed to hire Steve Bohling and his company Masonry Effects for cement repair and restoration work at a total bid cost of $1,200.00. Additionally this building owner agreed to hire Mr. Bohling’s brother for rear building painting at a bid cost of $300.00 with the understanding that the paint and paint supplies must be provided. This was a verbal contract complete with handshake between Steve Bohling and myself.
On May 12, 2007 Mr. Bohling’s "wife" Terri Prosser presented me with a “Masonry Effects” bid document that detailed masonry and paint work at a total price of $1,300.00. I had understood the total masonry bid to be $1,200.00 and the paint work to be completed by Mr. Bohling’s brother to be $300.00 for a total job cost of $1,500.00.
I questioned Ms. Prosser about the difference in price between the verbal bid and the written bid. Ms. Prosser stated she had no knowledge of what had been agreed upon between me and her "husband" Steve Bohling.
I figured that the combined verbal masonry and paint bid of $1,500.00 left the presented masonry and paint bid sheet at either a $300.00 deficit to Mr. Bohling or if the painting was mistakenly included, left the presented bid sheet $100.00 higher than the verbal masonry bid to me.
I stated to Ms. Prosser that “I’m not going to get too concerned over a $100.00 difference at this point” and did sign the “Masonry Effects” bid document dated 05/11/07.
Ms. Prosser was given a check in the amount of $500.00 made out to Masonry Effects at that time.
